Today's Career of the Day: Cardiovascular Technologist/Technician
Conducts tests on pulmonary or cardiovascular systems of patients for diagnostic purposes. May conduct or assist in electrocardiograms, cardiac catheterizations, pulmonary functions, lung capacity, and similar tests.

Time: 3:00 – 4:30
First class starts on Wednesday, August 30, 2017
Enrollment: 16 Students Maximum (waiting list will be created)
Transportation: Students must provide their own transportation.
Student Criteria: Junior or Senior
Students must:Turn 17 years old by the end of the school year (the last school day of the traditional calendar) they take the EMT course
Be interested in health science and/or public safety careers.
Have good attendance and discipline records.
Obtain parental or guardian approval.

Today's Career of the Day: Cardiovascular Surgeon
Cardiovascular surgeons are doctors who have extra training to operate on the heart and blood vessels. They can insert pacemakers, perform coronary artery bypasses and operate on heart valves.
They can also operate on other arteries in the body, such as the carotid artery, which runs up the neck. And they can surgically treat lung and esophagus problems.
Today's Career of the Day: Cardiologist
Cardiologists diagnose and treat diseases of the heart. They use medical instruments to examine patients for symptoms of heart disorders.

Assist anesthesiologists in the administration of anesthesia for surgical and non-surgical procedures. Monitor patient status and provide patient care during surgical treatment.
A Symposium for High School Students, Counselors, and Educators!
The Volunteer Association of UNC Health Care is pleased to offer the Health Careers Symposium again this year as a unique opportunity to high school students interested in pursuing a health career. The TAVR heart surgery procedure will be the morning topic, followed by a tour of our many hospitals and departments, as well as hands-on experience with our patient simulators.
During the Symposium
The symposium will be held Thursday, October 19, 2017. Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m. in Carrington Hall, UNC School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
The program will include:
- Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m.
- Lunch provided by Chick-fil-A
- Afternoon hospital tours
- The program will be completed by 2:30 p.m.
The cost of the trip is $10. We will depart from the PHS Campus at 6:30am. We will return between 4 - 4:30pm. Only 10 students are able to attend this trip. If you are interested, please comment below to contact Mrs. Covington.
