“The NC House and Senate page program offers young men and women the opportunity to learn about, and participate in, the legislative process of our state. It is a four-day long experience that allows NC high school students between the ages of 15 and 18 (or 14 if already in the 9th grade) to observe firsthand how our laws are made. It provides them the unique privilege of working in the House Chamber in the midst of legislative action.”

Provide prompt, accurate and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. Be friendly, courteous and cooperative with other store associates. DPS Scholars-At-Work Program
What: A weeklong workplace immersion experience within a Research Triangle Park company such as Environmental Protection Agency, Cisco, and National Institute for Environmental Health Science.
When: Spring Break 2017 (April 10-14)
How: Students who successfully complete the program will receive a $100 stipend. DPS will provide lunch and bus transportation.
The application deadline is February 16.
Career Headlines will continue to focus on communication for the next several weeks, as this work readiness skill stands out as one of the most essential for success. Even though listening is so important to good interpersonal relations, research shows that we listen only 25 percent of the time.
Sometimes a message gets confused, and the listener doesn't interpret it in the way the speaker meant it. Age, gender, education, economic status, family background, amount of technology knowledge, life experiences, and many other things play a role in how well listeners interpret what the speaker says.
Complicating the ability to listen is the mismatch between speaking speed and thinking speed. We process information at more than 400 words a minute, but the average speaker talks at only 125-150 words a minute. While waiting for the speaker to move on, the brain shuffles through other thoughts and loses some of the speaker's words and meanings.

You’ll make powerful closing arguments in moot court in the Law Institute, or take control of a robot you programmed at the Technology Institute. Students will have the opportunity to work with esteemed faculty in the in the chemistry department, mentors, and industry professionals who have taken cutting-edge research and seen it materialize in the real- world in the Biosciences and Engineering Institute.
